England boss drops hint Man United star could miss Euro 2016 opener

rooney77Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing their players and the latest England squad, as they debate comments dropped by the national boss.

Metro quotes Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson as suggesting Wayne Rooney, the national captain, is not guaranteed to start the opening game next month against Russia.

‘Wayne Rooney has done a good job for England. His record is terrific. He’s been great for us. Wayne Rooney is an important part of our squad. But he’s not demanding to play in our opening game.’

‘And I’m under no pressure to play him in our opening game.’

Rooney has struggled for form with Manchester United this season and his performances are incomparable to England’s other attacking options, particularly Premier League top scorer Harry Kane and FWA Player of the Year Jamie Vardy.

Our landlord thinks this is good as he feels Rooney shouldn’t start at the Euros, although he does feel Hodgson will select him for the opening game anyway.

Should Rooney start for England this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
