Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were far from happy with their sides drab draw with Sunderland yesterday but one piece of news today has really riled them up.
The Sun says England boss Roy Hodgson has guaranteed Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere a spot in his 23-man squad for this summer’s European Championship, despite Wilshere making his season debut only yesterday.
Wilshere marked his return from injury with a six minute cameo against Sunderland yesterday and can only play a maximum of 270 minutes for the Gunners between now and the end of the season, with the highly unlikely he’ll start any of Arsenal’s three remaining matches.
Hodgson is a big fan of the young midfielder, who marked his last England appearance with two stunners against Slovenia in June last year, but questions will be asked about this decision, especially with the Arsenal man suffering from chronic injuries in recent seasons.
Our landlord, along with many of the Arsenal fans in the bar, would prefer to see Wilshere given the summer off to recover and believe this would be of more long-term benefit to the national squad, rather than forcing him into the side this summer.
Should Wilshere go with England to the European Championships? Let us know in the comments below!
