England make late move to snatch Arsenal starlet’s international rights

IwobiArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoyed their weekend, which saw a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Everton, and one standout performer from the match has adorned headlines this Monday morning.

The Daily Mirror state the Football Association have launched a very late move to Alex Iwobi, as they look to persuade the teenager to tie his international future down to England.

19-year-old Iwobi, who scored his first senior goal in the victory against Everton, has featured twice for Nigeria’s senior team this season but he isn’t officially tied to them until he plays a competitive match- which could take place on Friday.

Nigeria host Egypt this week in an African Cup of Nations qualifier and if Iwobi does feature in the match, he will then be ineligible to play for another international side.

With Jay-Jay Okocha has his uncle, Iwobi has close ties to Nigeria but has featured for England in numerous youth levels, which gives the Three Lions hope of luring him to feature in their set-up.

However, our landlord believes Iwobi should stick with Nigeria as he’ll get much more opportunities- a sentiment many fans in the bar agree with.

Arsenal fans, should Iwobi switch allegiances or stay with Nigeria? Let us know in the comments!
