Those in for a fry up, no matter who they support, have been left in a state of shock following the latest reports from the Transfer Tavern.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, England international Andros Townsend is a target for Sporting Lisbon following his relegation with current club Newcastle United.
The 24-year old joined the North East giants back in January and while he showed some dazzling form, was unable to help the club stave off the drop under the stewardship of Rafa Benitez.
It is thought he has an £8m buyout clause in his deal on Tyneside now the club will be playing Championship football next term, with West Ham United and Southampton also believed to be keen on keeping him in the Premier League.
His departure would be a hammer blow for the Toon Army, with the man they bought for £12m proving to be one of their best players in a late resurgence that fell just short of survival.
Some postings on Twitter even suggest the former Spurs star has LEFT the Three Lions’ training camp in order to jet out to the Portuguese capital.
While these particular tweets are unconfirmed, momentum does appear to be growing in what would be a shock deal.
Just how big a blow would this be for Newcastle?
