England misfit to replace Frenchman’s goals at Newcastle United?

Darren BentNewcastle United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern fear it’s going to be yet another season with minimal success and goals to achieve.

And that fear has only been enhanced with The Express‘ reports that Alan Pardew plans to replace a French international with an Aston Villa flop.

Pardew has reportedly targeted former England striker Darren Bent to lead his line next season with Aston Villa keen to offload his wages.

Bent, who was on loan at Fulham this past season, reportedly earns £60,000 at Villa Park and a cut price deal could be in the offing.

Loic Remy scored 14 league goals in 24 starts for the Magpies this past season so any striker coming in to fill the Frenchman’s boots is going to have a hard task on their hands.

Pardew could be classed as a shrewd if it turns out Bent does still retain some of the talent he used to show just a couple of seasons ago.

After all, Aston Villa did pay almost £25 million for his signature in 2011 with Bent having scored 106 Premier League goals in his career.

Mike Ashley is under pressure to spend this summer following the sale of their former key man Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Newcastle United fans. Is Darren Bent really a good enough candidate to fill in for Loic Remy or is it more rubbish from Ashley? Let us know your thoughts below.
