A rumour spreading in the Transfer Tavern this morning has alerted Tottenham Hotspur fans about the increased likelihood of an England international leaving the club in the New Year.
Reports from the Sun suggest that Spurs winger, Andros Townsend, is more likely to leave the club after his frustrations at a lack of game time have been building up.
Spurs’ Monday night win over Premier League strugglers, Aston Villa, was left on a sour note after Townsend and fitness coach, Nathan Gardiner, clashed after the game.
The pair were seen having a heated exchange of words on the pitch as the young winger’s frustration at the lack of game time appeared to finally be at a tipping point.
Although Spurs refused to comment on the situation when questioned afterwards, the pair have managed to make up.
However, 24-year-old Townsend was already looking at a future away from White Hart Lane as he is understandably desperate for first team football.
It was rumoured that a number of clubs were keen on securing Townsend’s services in the summer, including Southampton, Villa and West Brom. Since deciding on staying at Spurs, he has fallen down the pecking order under boss, Mauricio Pochettino.
With Townsend also hoping to be picked for the Euros in 2016, there was reports suggesting a possible loan move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window in an attempt to become labelled as a “regular Premier League starter”, as a lack of game time could be killing his chances of an international call-up.
