Liverpool have been flying this season so far. The Reds have won their first three Premier League games by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0 and are sitting pretty at the top of the table. One man has stepped up to the plate at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk to allow that to happen and that is Joe Gomez.

The 21-year-old defender is capable of playing anywhere across the backline, although he has been mainly used as a right-back and a centre-back in his time at Anfield. This season has seen him play every minute in the Premier League in Dejan Lovren’s absence and the way things are going it’s hard to see the Croatian defender getting back into the team over Gomez.
The youngster signed for the club as a relatively unknown defender from Charlton back in summer 2015 and so far he’s yet to look out of place on Merseyside. The young defender has shown serious composure and maturity beyond his years in his three years at the club and now he’s been given a starting role alongside van Dijk it looks like he’ll be there to stay for the long-term, with Joel Matip and Lovren looking like being the third and fourth choice now.
