Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are set for a showdown over the signature of Fiorentina’s Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic, according to The Daily Star.
The mullet-haired Jovetic began his career as a sixteen-year-old with Partizan Belgrade before joining Fiorentina in 2008. He helped his side qualify for the 2009-10 Champions League with Fiorentina only eliminated on away goals by eventual runners-up Bayern Munich.
Despite missing the entire 2010-11 season with a cruciate injury, Jovetic has returned to goalscoring action this season and recently signed an extension to his contract keeping him at the Florence club until 2016.
Although Jovetic has a £40mn release clause in his new contract it is believed that he could be available for a knockdown £30mn. Representatives from the three Premier League giants watched him in Fiorentina’s 3-2 victory against title contenders Udinese at the weekend, a win which lifts Fiorentina into tenth place in Serie A.
Jovetic has been likened to former Italian superstar Roberto Baggio and his skilful displays for the Divine Ponytail’s former club mean that it is likely he will make a move to the Premier League sooner rather than later. As he has himself stated,
“I am content in Italy but I’m always looking out to improve myself. I have been looking out for a chance to play in the Premier League and I am prepared for the challenge.”
