‘English Suarez’ – Liverpool fans praise youngster after last night’s performance

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Dominic Solanke’s late winner against Ukraine for the England U21s in UEFA U21 qualifying. The young Three Lions earned a 2-1 win at Bramall Lane last night as Solanke and Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave the England side a much deserved three points, despite being far from at their best.

Solanke has struggled for game time since his move from Chelsea in the summer. The striker was part of the England U20 side who won the World Cup in 2017 and he made the move from Stamford Bridge to Anfield as he looked to kick on in his career. Solanke has started just two games for Liverpool’s senior team this season, despite making 17 Premier League appearances. The striker’s role as a substitute has meant he is yet to score his first senior goal for the club.

It’s hard to see Solanke breaking into the Kopites starting eleven anytime soon, the 20-year-old has had to watch on as Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have torn up defences both domestically and in Europe. The Merseysiders’ devasting front three is every defender’s worst nightmare and whilst Solanke will no doubt be learning from the goal machine’s in training, he will probably have to look for minutes in senior football elsewhere on loan as he continues his development. If he keeps scoring for England and taking the chances he’s given though, it could only be a few years before Solanke becomes a household name in Liverpool.
