It was Leeds United fans who were making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern on Tuesday night after their side knocked Burnley out of the Carabao Cup.
Thomas Christiansen’s men lost their unbeaten start to the Championship season on Saturday at Millwall and would have demanded a response from his team, and he certainly got it at Turf Moor yesterday evening.
Hadi Sacko gave them the lead only for ex-striker Chris Wood to level proceedings in the 89th minute, although Pablo Hernandez’s spot-kick five minutes later looked set to seal their place in the last 16.
Yet Robbie Brady’s wonderful free-kick sent the game into extra time, and when they were level after 120 minutes as well, it was the Yorkshire giants who held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 5-3, with Andy Lonergan saving from James Tarkowski.
And the contest at Turf Moor on Tuesday saw former Leeds stars Wood and Charlie Taylor line up against their ex-employers, with both having left Elland Road during the summer to pursue their Premier League dreams.
And, unsurprisingly, several Leeds fans took to Twitter in the aftermath of Tuesday’s game to give the duo a bit of stick after their side’s victory…
Sell Wood to Burnley £16m. Sell Taylor to Burnley £5m. Seeing #Lufc knock them out of the cup……….priceless!

One brilliant thing I noticed tonight as well… Charlie Taylor is at fault for Leeds’ 1st goal makes it sweeter! #lufc

I’m not sure I was comfortable watching Chris wood celebrate his penalty last night especially the way he did. That’s my opinion #LUFC

Great result after Saturday. Good to see that Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood didn’t have the last laugh! #lufc

Chris Wood didn’t move to Burnley to play PL football, he moved to just play. Would struggle to get into our B team now! On we go! #lufc
