With the very unfortunate and lengthy injury to Fabio Borini, Liverpool are left short of options with only one recognised striker in Luis Suarez and the rest of the team struggling to chip in with the goals. It seems Liverpool have no option but to sign someone in January who will not only score goals but will also fit Brendan Rodgers’ passing philosophy.
Reports in Spain are claiming one man could be heading to Merseyside from Atletico Madrid and before anyone gets too excited, its not Radamel Falcao.
Whilst Falcao has grabbed the headlines in England for his goal scoring prowess, team-mate Arda Turan has been the man pulling the strings for Atletico; as well as notching himself 5 goals in his debut La Liga Campaign and 2 already this season. It’s no secret that Atletico are suffering from financial issues and must sell if they are to balance the books. Even if Falcao’s price is met they are adamant not to sell their prize asset but could definitely be tempted by a reasonable offer for Turan.
It’s believed that the story is only at the “interest” stage, with Rodgers known to be a keen admirer of the Turkish playmaker. With the exception of the 5-2 drumming of Norwich, Liverpool have really struggled creating creating chances and Turan would add a much needed flair in the oppositions final third. Known for his creativity and work rate it could perhaps prove a master stroke by Rodgers were he to bring the best out of the rest.
If he were to sign in January the Kop could expect an immediate impact, as he’s no stranger to handling pressure, which he’s shown by captaining Galatassary at just 22. Plus he has already demonstrated he can quickly adapt and prove his worth in a foreign league.
The signing of Arda Turan would only be a good thing for Liverpool but it doesn’t solve the question of where are the goals going to come from? Ideally Liverpool need a prolific striker that will walk into to the team and take some of the pressure of Suarez’ shoulders. Personally I think they have missed out on not signing Jelavic or Berbatov who are natural scorers and fit the bill technically.
They could however capitalise on Lewadowski who looks a like young, harder-working Ibrahimovic. Strongly linked with Manchester United he would be a very welcome signing in Merseyside.
