According to the Mirror, West Ham are keen on Chelsea man Olivier Giroud. It's a move that, for them, makes sense. He's a proven goalscorer, and his contract at Stamford Bridge ends next summer.

With no real news regarding a new deal for the Frenchman, he could be available on a free in less than year, and so a move would represent brilliant business for the Hammers.

However, for Chelsea, that should force them into action. Losing Giroud would be very bad for the club, and Sarri needs to act quickly to ensure that he keeps hold of his forward.

After all, Giroud has been a regular this season. Though he hasn't scored as often as he'd have liked, Giroud has retained the trust of Maurizio Sarri, and that's with good reason. His hold-up play and technical ability are second-to-none, and over the years he's scored more than enough goals to indicate that he'll come good in that regard too.

Alvaro Morata hasn't been good enough for the Blues, and Giroud has stepped up to the plate and done well. He was brought in as second-choice, make no mistake, but he deserves every minute of action that he's bagged so far this year.

The importance of his over 80 caps for France are important, too. Giroud is an elder statesman now, and he's got bags of experience for both for club and country. For a Chelsea squad that is so young, it's important that there is a mix of youthful exuberance and proven quality - and Giroud has more than been doing his bit in that regard.

He might be older, but Giroud still has plenty to offer Chelsea, and so to lose him - especially for nothing - would be nothing short of a disaster for the club.
