Out-of-favour Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is the subject of interest from Barcelona-based Spanish side Espanyol. The striker, who was signed by Mark Hughes in the summer for a whopping £17.5 million, has struggled to make it into the first team at Eastlands, having first struggled with injuries before falling second choice to Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy and Carlos Tevez.
The Paraguayan, 28, has been limited to just 2 league starts this summer and despite scoring a brace in a 4-3 win against Sunderland, a win that proved to be Hughes’ last game; the striker is low down the pecking order at Eastlands.
The Spanish side tried to unsuccessfully prise Santa Cruz away from City just before Hughes was sacked and are now hoping that Roberto Mancini will allow him to complete a loan deal to the Catalan club. Santa Cruz has revealed there has been outside interest in him, stating:
“My agents have received calls from other clubs asking about me.”
