Espanyol want former England international

He’s probably better known for his media appearances and impressive moustache for charity in recent times rather than anything on the pitch but punters in the Football Transfer Tavern still remember Michael Owen as a goal-hungry striker in the Premier League.

It looks that La Liga side Espanyol also still view Owen as a working footballer after Metro suggest that they are planning to give the injury-prone forward an escape route out of Stoke.

The 33-year-old has only made a solitary appearance for the Potters after signing on a free transfer in September due to consistent injuries and is it thought that he may be keen to leave Tony Pulis’ side in January.

The former Manchester United man has previously enjoyed time in Spain with Real Madrid and he could be inclined to another spell there although it is hard to see the La Liga side forking out the wages he usually commands.

The former England international has recently conceded that his career is approaching its end and a move to sunny Barcelona with Espanyol could suit all parties with Stoke eager to use his wages elsewhere.

Will Owen move back to Spain? Vote in our polls.
