Bad news for the Man City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
Whilst Man City have been dominant in the Premier League so far this season, the Man City fans in the Tavern have raised more than a few concerns regarding the state of their side’s defence.
In particular, they are fearful that the club’s full backs are not up to par this season; and that Pep Guardiola desperately needs to invest in further defensive depth.
This is a hard point to argue against, with players like Sagna and Clichy clearly past their prime – but at this point; Guardiola has very little choice but to persist with them.
This has lead to further concerns in the Tavern over the long term future of their defenders, given that the trio of Sagna, Clichy and Zabaleta all have expiring deals at the end of the season.
These concerns have now been exasperated due to a surprising report produced by the Sun.
The Sun are suggesting that the Man City trio of Sagna, Clichy and Zabaleta are all attracting the attention of Serie A giants Roma, who have become renowned in the Tavern for their utilisation of older, more experienced players like Francesco Totti.
Roma could offer something that Man City certainly couldn’t – regular first team football; and this has left the Man City faithful sweating on whether the Citizens will be able to negotiate new deals for the trio.
Granted, Man City are expected to invest heavily in the weak spot in January and next summer; but it seems unlikely that they could afford to replace all three players.
Our landlord thinks that Guardiola needs to start thinking about which of the players are worth keeping…
