This is a huge blow to the Chelsea and Man City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
At 29, and nearing the end of his career, a few of the more cynical punters in the Tavern believed that Juventus would jump at the deal due to the massively inflated price – but that does not appear to be the case.
In fact, both Chelsea and Man City have suffered a huge blow their pursuit of the defender…
As per the Daily Mail, Juventus are keen to ward off interest from both Chelsea and Man City by tieing the Italian stalwart down to a new long-term deal.
They are reporting that Bonucci has already been offered a deal that could see him through to 2020 – with terms of around £100,000 per week.
This has brought the ecstatic mood in the Tavern down to a more sombre tone, as both sets of fans begin to realise that a deal might not be as likely as first thought.
Interestingly, the Evening Standard are reporting that Antonio Conte will not be put off; and could offer up to £60m for the defender – but whether that will be enough to secure his signature remains to be seen.
The saga has already ran the entire length of the summer transfer window – and now it looks like it could encapsulate the rest of the season.
With Chelsea struggling defensively, Bonucci could be the perfect man to rebuild Conte’s defence – especially with the potential departure of John Terry at the end of the season.
Man City, on the other hand, have been frighteningly good so far this season – and the addition of Bonucci to the mix could make them unstoppable.
Expectations in the Football Transfer Tavern are slowly building for this transfer saga to conclude…
