Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking anxious after talkSPORT explained that Wolfsburg are joining them in the hunt for Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri.
It is expected the Swiss international midfielder will be allowed to leave the Bavarian club in January and punters feel it is important that the Reds land the youngster to help revitalise the side and regain their attacking threat.
The 23-year-old has found it hard to get in Bayern’s first team on a consistent basis and Wolfsburg – who currently lie in second place in the Bundesliga – are said to be looking to offer them a loan deal with a view to make it permanent.
And if this is the case it could give Liverpool an edge in the race to sign Shaqiri with Bayern being desperate to get him off their books as they try and recoup as much of the €12 million fee they paid FC Basel for him in 2012.
Shaqiri caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers following his outstanding performances during the World Cup in Brazil.
But to ensure Rodgers lands his man he may have to offer a quick deal as soon as the transfer window opens to seal the deal.
Liverpool fans. Is Xherdan Shaqiri an example of one of those hard working attacking players in the Alexis Sanchez mould that you could do with in your squad? Let us know your thoughts below.
