Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are dealing with the news that they could lose a big defender this summer, amidst interest from one of Europe’s biggest sides.
The Telegraph states Barcelona have identified Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta as a potential replacement for veteran Dani Alves, who is widely expected to seal a move to Juventus in the coming weeks.
Barcelona’s number one target is Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin but with the Gunners prepared to offer the player fresh terms, the Catalan giants have set their sights on alternatives- and Spanish ace Azpilicueta is on their short-list.
26-year-old Azpilicueta plays as a left-back for Chelsea but his favoured position is on the right, where he plays for his nation, and Barcelona are ready to offer the player the chance to play in his favoured position on a regular basis.
With Chelsea not having Champions League football for next season, Barcelona can offer him the chance to join the 2014/15 champions- and have a wealth of honours to their names in recent years, which could persuade Azpilicueta to switch his allegiances.
