Tottenham Hotspur fans were gutted in the Transfer Tavern last night as their side missed the chance to go top of the Premier League- and they’ve been handed a double-whammy with the reports emerging this morning.
La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims that Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez is looking to replace Zinedine Zidane just months after his appointment, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino being the prime target.
Los Blancos legendary midfielder Zidane only replaced Rafael Benitez in mid-season but the Spanish giants have continued to struggle, with defeat in last weekend’s Madrid derby raising pressure on the inexperienced Frenchman.
With the La Liga form in mind, Perez is looking to replace Zidane in the summer if Real Madrid fail to win the Champions League– which seems a mammoth task considering the form of Barcelona and Bayern Munich this season, who must be considered favourites.
Pochettino has risen to prominence in the Premier League after leading Southampton into unchartered waters, before taking charge of Tottenham and leading Spurs towards their first league title in half a century.
Our landlord is concerned for the Spurs fans cowering behind the tables, as he feels the lure of Real Madrid could prove to be too much for Pochettino.
