Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have quelled their nerves ahead of the end of the season by having their attention diverted by some sensational transfer reports.
Neymar, who finished third-placed as last year’s Ballon D’Or, is looking for a drastic increase in his current wages in Catalonia and with Barcelona’s financial predicament, the Spanish giants may be forced to cash-in on the 23-year-old.
The news will put Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain on alert, although a world-transfer record will likely have to be set if they want to capture the South American sensation as his release clause is a staggering £144m.
Speaking about the situation, Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague suggested there’s more than meets the eye.
“It has been a fascinating story all season, a new twist to it happened this week. Two Catalan newspapers started a sort of campaign against Neymar, and those things never take place by chance.”
“It seems the club was not fully unhappy that the papers have suggested Neymar’s lifestyle is not ideal for a elite player and some of his team mates are not happy with that. It coincided with Barcelona’s defeats and of course with the fact that the club has not sorted out yet a sponsor for next season.”
“Is the club trying to put Neymar for sale? Not fully, but they are preparing the way in case they have to. The player’s side has got a clear timing. His contract will be renewed, they say, at some point this year. But the club is scared that might take the debt to new highs. He has flirted with the Premier League, but he wants to stay.”
However, our landlord feels there’s no chance Neymar will be coming to Manchester United this summer.
