We regular receive rumours that we can scarcely believe here in the Football Transfer Tavern and today is one of those such occasions.
The rather surprising reports come from talkSPORT who suggest that European and World Club champions Bayern Munich are considering a summer move for Newcastle United full back Mathieu Debuchy.
Pep Guardiola’s Bavarian side doesn’t have many weak links but recent matches have indicated that Rafinha could be replaced with a better professional, especially with the excellent Philipp Lahm used in a higher midfield role as the pivot in the formidable Bayern side.
This could reportedly see the former Barcelona coach looking to England as he eyes up a potential swoop for the French international defender.
Debuchy is first choice right back for his country, and he arrived in the North East with a strong reputation surrounding his services at former club Lille.
While his form at St. James’ Park has been consistent, there has been little to suggest that he is capable of impressing at the very highest level.
Any interest from the Allianz Arena is certainly likely to turn his head, as the opportunity to play in what is regarded as the world’s best team doesn’t come around every day.
Debuchy is under contract with Alan Pardew’s side until 2018, but we all know that should Bayern come calling they will find it very hard to keep hold of their first choice right back.
Do you really think Bayern would have any interest in the Magpies defender? Let us know your thoughts below.
