Man United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and AC Milan have their sights on Stade Rennes defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
With his performances for both club and country drawing comparisons to Claude Makelele the 20 year old has stormed onto the international scene. Last year was a breakthrough for M’Vila as he cemented his first team place at Rennes and also made his international debut. He has been an integral part of Rennes’ impressive season and has started in all but one of their games.
Tough tacking, tenacious and tireless; the Premier League would suit the Frenchman’s style. Known for his ability to break down an opponent’s attack and swiftly create a counter, there is much more to his game than simply tackling. His passing is adroit and his fearlessness gives M’Vila a huge psychological edge on his adversaries. His only obvious weakness is his poor form in front of goal with only one goal in 22 as well as a paltry 14 shots – not incredibly important to a defensive midfielder.

Real Madrid and Liverpool were reportedly interested last summer and failed in any attempt to sign the midfielder as he signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2014. With Rennes battling for the title as well as Champions League qualification it could all come down to his clubs final position come May. Given the fact that he could have left earlier and earned more it doesn’t seem that finances are crucial to the youngster.
The incentive for Rennes, however, comes in the level of interest and the bidding war that would ensue. The club could be tempted to cash in while the going is good and avoid a situation where M’Vila is coming to the end of his contract and looking for a move which would result in a cut in price.
