Leicester fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing to see who their club sign now the transfer window is officially open and our punters are hopeful they can return to Europe next year.
The Foxes are set to seal their first signing of the summer after triggering the release clause of West Brom defender, Jonny Evans. The Baggies captain will cost the club a fairly low sum and manager Claude Puel is a long-term admirer of the 30-year-old. He will add some much-needed stability to the Leicester defence.
With Robert Huth leaving the club, Aleksandar Dragovic returning to Bayer Leverkusen and Wes Morgan approaching the end of his career, adding another centre-back would be a wise move by Puel. Despite the arrival of Evans, the Foxes are extremely short on depth at the back which must be addressed. The answer to their problems could be Aston Villa defender – James Chester.
Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the former Manchester United man has become a key player for the Villains since joining from West Brom in 2016. He was crucial in Villa’s road to the playoff final where they lost to Fulham. Now, due to financial fair play restrictions, Steve Bruce needs to offload £40m worth of players to balance the books according to reports.
Chester made 50 appearances in all competitions and would be a great partner for Evans and Harry Maguire in the defence. The 30-year-old is approaching the prime of his career and is ready to make the step up to Premier League level again.
