Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side edge past Merseyside rivals Everton 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night, thus taking them a step closer to their first trophy since 2012.
Jurgen Klopp’s men haven’t lifted any silverware in the last five seasons dating back to their League Cup victory over Cardiff City at Wembley in 2012, although three major finals since then suggests that it’s not through the lack of trying. And the Reds remain in the hunt for a first FA Cup crown since 2006 as goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk either side of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s equaliser sealed a narrow 2-1 win for Klopp’s side on Friday, thus booking them a spot in the last 32 and a tie against Alan Pardew’s West Brom at the end of the month.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, although they are unlikely to be overly pleased with a recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), which suggests that there is an ‘even greater chance’ that Emre Can will sign for Juventus at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old’s future at Anfield has been subject of speculation for a while now given that his contract expires in the summer, and as of yet no extension has been agreed.
And Juventus are one side reportedly interested in landing the Germany international in a bid to bolster their midfield ranks, although signs recently have pointed to Can staying at Liverpool for the rest of the campaign before leaving on a free in the close season.
And a recent update has outlined that talks have been ‘positive’ between the two sides recently, ultimately resulting in an ‘even greater chance’ that the 23-year-old will make the move to Serie A at the end of the current campaign.
And this potentially significant update is likely to strike a huge blow into Klopp’s hopes of convincing the midfielder to remain at Anfield, with it looking increasingly inevitable that Can will leave Liverpool at the expiration of his contract.
Landlord’s verdict: Emre Can’s future at Liverpool has been in the news for a while now, but it seems that a conclusion is in sight, and it’s not a particularly great one for Reds fans.
The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus, be it this month or in the summer, and recent reports suggest that there is an ‘even greater chance’ of that happening following reportedly ‘positive’ talks between the two sides.
And while leaving the summer is arguably better than now, this is sure to come as a blow to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who may have been hoping to convince Can to stay in the coming months, but it does look as though the Germany international will indeed leave Anfield come the end of the season.
