The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Sam Allardyce will bring in a few new faces in January. The Toffees’ season appears to be turning around somewhat under the Englishman, having endured a terrible start under Ronald Koeman and subsequently David Unsworth.
Now, though, having picked up a few points in recent weeks, things are on the up. That seems to be reflected in their transfer policy, too, with the Toffees reportedly now in the mix for one of Europe’s most highly sought-after talents. According to Tutto Mercato Web, Everton are the latest side to have enquired about the availability of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. They reportedly have followed the likes of Liverpool and PSG in expressing their interest in his services.
Seri is a talented midfielder currently plying his trade in Ligue 1. A deep-lying creative midfielder, he excels with the ball at his feet, whilst he’s also comfortable defending and moving play forward.
It would certainly be a bold move for Everton to try and compete with some of Europe’s biggest sides, but that speaks volumes about their intent this season. Clearly, under Sam Allardyce, they want to achieve big things, and to do that, big players are needed. Seri certainly falls under that banner.
Rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt, Seri wouldn’t be cheap, but what a signing he would be.
Seri is a top player, and if Everton can land him, it would be quite the coup.
That said, it won’t be easy. Unless they’re willing to spend big, they could find themselves financially outmuscled.
Their interest appears to be concrete, though, and stranger things have happened in recent years.
