Everton boss praises ‘perfect’ forward

LukakuEverton fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing reports circulating the bar area after reading that the Toffees’ boss is backing their top scorer.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has expressed his backing for striker Romelu Lukaku and claimed he is ‘perfect’ for the club.

All the recent headlines in the Premier League have been around the top-flight’s leading goalscorer, Jamie Vardy, after he netted against Manchester United in Leicester City’s 1-1 draw and broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s impressive record of scoring in 10 consecutive games.

But the Toffees boss has explained that regardless of the City strikers prolific form, he would never consider swapping him for Lukaku.

When asked if he would swap Lukaku for Vardy or anyone else, Martinez said:

‘I think it has always been the case that Rom, with the potential he has, is perfect for us. He is a striker who can do it all.

‘He has the old-fashioned traits — he can have his back to play, the strength, the power. But he can also run with the ball and is a clinical finisher. You can see from his scoring record what he is. That is why we made a huge investment in him.’

The 22-year-old Belgian has netted 52 top-flight goals since the start of the 2012-2013 and already scored 10 crucial goals this season.
