The Everton regulars at the bar in the Transfer Tavern are shocked after reading reports suggesting that one of their out-of-favour wingers still has a future at the club according to the Toffees’ boss.
Reports from TalkSport have revealed that Everton boss Roberto Martinez, has spoken out about the future of Kevin Mirallas and has insisted that Everton will not welcome any bids for the winger despite his lack of game-time.
The Belgian international has been limited for first-team starts, making his second on Boxing Day against Newcastle but had not managed a Premier League start since the opening day of the season.
Mirallas, who had put pen-to-paper on a new three-year-deal in the summer, has since returned to the sidelines with Monaco reportedly interested in making a bid for his services.
However, despite Martinez admitting that the current Everton squad is too big, when asked if an approach for Mirallas was welcome, he responded:
“No, not at all. Kevin signed a new contract in the summer. He had a really strong pre-season. We allow football to make decisions. We’ve got really good attacking options and Kevin was unfortunate.”
“I expect Kevin to have a major influence in the second half of the season.”
With Everton’s festive fixture list being nothing short of hectic so far, it is clear to see why Martinez would be keen to keep the majority of his players at Goodison Park.
