Another day here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and another twist in the John Stones transfer saga.
The England international is understood to have handed in an official transfer request as he looks to force through a move to Chelsea.
The reigning Premier League champions have already seen three bids rejected, and are expected to return with an offer close to the £40million mark before the close of the transfer window.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has maintained all summer that Stones won’t be sold, and with just four days of the window remaining it seems the Spaniard has made one final plea with his star defender to stay put.
Martinez has claimed Stones is already at the ‘perfect club’ to aid his development, and has called on the 21-year-old to resist the advances of Jose Mourinho’s side.
He also backed the words of chairmen Bill Kenwright, who said simply that Stones will not be sold.
He said to BBC Sport: “The chairman was really strong and made things very clear. John is at the perfect club and environment.”
Martinez also confirmed Stones will feature during Saturday’s clash with Tottenham.
“It’s been an emotional time for everyone but John is one of our most loved assets and he’ll be ready,” the Spaniard said.
“It seems like money can buy anything these days and clearly what we stand for at Everton is more important values.”
Our resident Everton supporting punters enjoying a game of pool over by the bar here in the Transfer Tavern have had enough of this saga now, and are desperate for this whole commotion around the defender to just stop!
