Everton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are alerted to news by the Daily Mail that their boss Roberto Martinez is looking to poach Shaun Maloney from his former club Wigan as he plans to strengthen his squad in January.
Over the past couple of weeks punters in the Tavern have noticed that Maloney’s quality may be wasted in the Championship.
And the Scotsman was linked with a move to Chicago Fire recently and this seems to have alerted his former boss, who is now keen on taking him to Goodison Park.
Wigan’s new boss Malky Mackay will be hoping he can cling on to his talisman for at least the rest of the season.
But annoyingly for Mackay, Martinez attended Scotland’s international with Ireland in a game were the 31-year-old scored a sublime winning goal.
Martinez is aware that they may be able to snatch him from the Championship side for a bargain as Maloney’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it is expected that he will only cost the Premier League side £500,000.
