Right now, Everton need to buy top-class players this summer if they’re to get anywhere near the top six next campaign. Indeed, that’s exactly why Marcel Brands would be mad to sign West Ham flop Aaron Cresswell.
With a new stadium on the way and an ambitious style of football in mind, the Toffees can’t afford to take on passengers over the next few years. So, bringing in Aaron Cresswell would prove to the fans the club aren’t committed to their project.
The 29-year-old has played just 20 times for West Ham this season and has been forced to share game-time with Arthur Masuaku. Frankly, he hasn’t even been able to hold down a starting position at 10th-placed West Ham so why would Everton want him.
Football Insider have claimed earlier this month that Everton bosses are plotting a move for him this summer, but it just seems so underwhelming. He’s rated at £9m on Transfermarkt, so he won’t break the bank but what’s the point in even spending that much on him.
If Everton want to play in Europe within the next few seasons they should be buying players who are used to playing at that level. If they do, then those players will raise the game of the more inexperienced ones around them.
At 28-years-old, Aaron Cresswell has experience, but it’s experience at a much lower level than Everton need. What’s the point? Seriously, they either need young players with bags of potential or older players with European experience. Cresswell has neither of these.
