Everton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern share the same concerns as their captain after he has made it clear he is expecting plenty of departures this summer.
According to the Guardian, the Toffees skipper Phil Jagielka has warned Roberto Martinez’s successor that he may have to deal with an exodus of established players.
This Everton side have woefully underachieved this year after finishing 11th in the table, on 47 points, but the squad is packed with players with huge potential.
And fearfully Jagielka predicts that Goodison Park could witness double-figure departures this summer, which has got quite a lot of Everton fans scared in the Tavern.
Meaning the next manager to take the reigns at the club will face an uphill task of not only improving the squad for next season, but replacing the key figures already at the club. He said:
“There is going to be a lot of change in the playing squad. I am not sure the squad is going to be big enough for the start of next season with the people who are leaving. It is a case of the club deciding what sort of squad and formula they want to go for both on the pitch and off the pitch. That will determine what manager they want.”
“I am not sure exactly what will go on but there could be double figures leaving, which is a lot. We are not talking about young lads either. We are talking about established first-team players. It is going to be a big change of personnel and that will play a big part in who will get the chance to manage the club.”
