Everton: Carlo Ancelotti drops hint about inclusion of Ellis Simms

Speaking in a recent press conference, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti hinted that Toffees’ youngster Ellis Simms could be involved with the first-team in the coming days and weeks.
Following the confirmation that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been ruled out of the club’s fixture with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening due to a hamstring injury, one journalist questioned whether the striker’s absence could present 20-year-old Simms with an opportunity in the Italian’s first-team squad.
In response, the 61-year-old remarked (via Liverpool Echo): “Why not? Ellis Simms is in the squad. He is training with us. The opportunity can happen.”
So far this season, the centre-forward has highly impressed over his 11 Premier League 2 appearances, scoring eight goals, however, as of yet, the former England U18 international has not made a competitive appearance for Everton’s first team.

With Calvert-Lewin ruled out, Ancelotti is not exactly blessed with depth in the centre-forward position, as, while Richarlison – who is also battling fitness issues – is capable of operating up front, other than the Brazilian, the Italian has only Cenk Tosun as an out and out striker in his squad.
With Tosun being linked with a move away from the club this month, perhaps a situation will arise where Ancelotti has does choose to hand Simms his debut for the club.
