According to journalist Jorge Nicola via Sport Witness, Everton reportedly bid £30m in the summer to sign Flamengo starlet Reinier.
Reinier, who has been making waves in Brazil’s Serie A, was on Marco Silva’s radar last summer as he looked to land another attacking midfielder in Everton’s bid to break the top six.
If reports are to be believed, the club offered £30m for the teenager, who has so far scored three goals and notched three assists for Flamengo in 2019.
Reinier’s quality is evident, especially when turning out for Brazil’s U17s – where he has proved influential with five goals in ten caps for his country at junior level – as per Transfermarkt.
Despite the Toffees offering a large fee to bring the 17-year-old to Merseyside, Flamengo reportedly insisted the offer was still too low, with the club recognising his potential to be one of Brazil’s future stars.
Now, Flamengo have raised the bar much higher if any European clubs want to entice the midfielder in future, with Reinier on the verge of signing a new contract until 2024 – including a raised release clause which currently stands at £70m.
If Silva is indeed serious about bringing the wonderkid to Goodison Park, it looks like the club are going to have to break the bank – and their transfer record – if they have any hope of acquiring his signature.
