The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for Ross Barkley…
The Englishman has been touted as a top star since his early days in the Everton first team, but a recent contract issue has left his future looking uncertain. With his current deal set to expire at the end of next season, the Toffees have been wanting to secure him to a new deal, but according to the Mirror, the chances of that happening are now getting increasingly unlikely.
According to the Mirror, Everton have ‘given up’ on securing a new deal for Barkley this summer, with Ronald Koeman reportedly hesitant to even consider making another move for the Englishman, questioning his attitude and commitment.
Of course, this is a fairly reasonable stance from Koeman, with the Dutchman’s side clearly on the way up. Under Roberto Martinez, the club had a bit of a lull, but Koeman is clearly turning the side around – and many of the Toffees in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a European challenge next season. He doesn’t need the negativity that Barkley’s unhappiness could bring.
Our landlord doesn’t think it would be too much of a disaster to lose Barkley, particularly if Gylfi Siggurdson comes in…
