The Everton fans who are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing yet more speculation regarding the future of one of their young stars.
The Daily Mail is reporting that John Stones has turned down the opportunity to move to Barcelona as his mind is set in joining fellow Premier League side Manchester City this summer.
Reports suggest that Stones agent Paul Martin met with officials from the La Liga champions last week who were offering the England international a weekly wage of £90,000 plus a bonus for every trophy he won with the club, but the 22 year old wants to stay in England.
This will be music to new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s ears as he is very interested in bringing the two footed defender to the Etihad Stadium even if he ends up signing Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte this summer.
Our landlord in The Tavern feels Stones would be better off remaining in England and is not surprised that Pep Guardiola wants the youngster this summer.
