Fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to huge developments in the chase for one of England’s finest prospects, with a massive price-tag being slapped upon the player’s head.
Manchester Evening News report that Manchester United will have to pay a whopping £45m for the services of John Stones, who is also a prime transfer target for Jose Mourinho’s struggling Chelsea side.
The England international is rated as one of the finest defensive prospects in European football and is tipped for a bright future, though Everton boss Roberto Martinez insisted recently he will not be sold in January.
£45m would be a British record transfer fee for a defender and, with Chelsea and Barcelona both keen on the player, the Toffees are confident of receiving a massive fee for Stones’ services.
With United paying £27m for Luke Shaw last summer, Manchester United do have the funds available to swoop for the player and would have no financial issues with doing so. However, the fight for his signature will be intense.
