Everton edge closer to big January deal, club set to fill vital squad gap – report

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the January transfer window will see some big changes at Goodison Park. The Toffees have had a tough season, by all accounts, but things are getting better under Sam Allardyce. They’ve picked up their form, and have impressed in parts, though their season is far from being completely turned around.

A few new signings could be just what they need in January, then, and according to the Sun, they’re closing in on securing exactly that. The Sun reports that Cenk Tosun is set to move to Everton, with the Besiktas forward reportedly at the club yesterday to finalise the details. He is said to have discussed medical terms and had a medical yesterday, with a move now appearing to be a matter of when, rather than if.

Tosun, though not a recognised name in England, is certainly a well-known figure across Europe. Currently playing in his native Turkey with Besiktas, the striker has been scoring for fun in recent years. He bagged a solid 20 league goals last season, and he has already followed up that up with 8 league goals this season.

A fantastic finisher, Tosun also provides pace, power and aerial dominance, making him the perfect player to lead the line at Goodison Park. There has been a massive gap in the squad following the departure of Romelu Lukaku last summer, and Tosun appears to be the man tasked with replacing him.

Landlord’s Verdict

Based on what we’ve seen of him, he’s certainly capable of replacing Lukaku. He’s a goalscorer, that much is clear, though it remains to be seen just how he will adapt to life in England.

He’s proven himself on a number of levels, though, including the Champions League. Allardyce will be keen to get him firing as soon as possible, once this move is confirmed.
