Everton supporters were finally in good spirits in the Transfer Tavern on Sunday after seeing their side produce a wonderful comeback to fight from 2-0 down to beat Watford 3-2 at Goodison Park, a result which moved them up to 15th in the Premier League table.
Caretaker manager David Unsworth had endured a miserable spell in charge since stepping in following Ronald Koeman’s sacking last month, having lost all three of his matches in the role. And when Richarlison and Christian Kabasele gave the Hornets a two-goal cushion with just 26 minutes left, it looked for all the world that a fourth successive defeat was on the horizon, yet the Toffees produced a stirring comeback as goals from Oumar Niasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Leighton Baines sealed a 3-2 win for the hosts, who saw former Evertonian Tom Cleverley miss a late penalty for Marco Silva’s side.
Thus, several of our resident Everton fans were making a lot of noise at the bar on Sunday night after seeing their team win for just the third time in the league this season, a result many will hope can be a springboard for their rise up the Premier League table.
And one man in particular earned much praise from Toffees supporters on Twitter after the game, namely substitute Ademola Lookman, who has somewhat surprisingly seen first team opportunities hard to come by this term despite Everton’s plight.
His 35-minute cameo at the weekend was just his second league appearance of the campaign, but the tricky winger proved his worth by playing a huge part in their opener, as well as an all round display full of pace and energy, something Everton have lacked for much of the campaign.
And several Evertonians have taken to social media to heap praise on the 20-year-old for his part in their crucial victory…
The injection of Lookman was the turning point. He oozes raw ability. The substitutions were pitch perfect today. #EFC

Can Lookman just play all the time please? #efc

Ademola Lookman reminds me of when Raheem Sterling broke into Liverpool’s first team. He needs continuous game time. The lad is danger

Lookman, Calvert-Lewin, & Niasse all need to start against Palace.
Throw Barkley into the mix and it’s very interesting…

Lookman needs to play. Set up the goal for Niasse as soon as he came on. All be it, Niasse had a bit to do but the kid makes thing happen.

Started off with a very Koeman esk team. No width. What has Lookman got to do to start. Massive difference when he came on

Lookman must start every week. Wonder what he did to upset koeman. Even at our worst he couldn’t get near the team.

After today if Lookman doesn’t start our next game I’d be very surprised. Great to see Lennon get back into the thick of the action too
