Eveeton travelled to Old Trafford yesterday in a good run of form. Marco Silva has made a good start to life at Goodison Park and a win against Manchester United would have made it four Premier League wins in a row. It wasn’t to be as The Toffees fell to a 2-1 defeat, although the way the hosts got the first goal left a bitter taste in the mouths of the travelling supporters.
26′ Penalty to Manchester United after Martial goes down under a challenge from Gana. #EFCawayday
— Everton (@Everton) 28 October 2018
Just after the halfway point in the first half and with his side settled into the game, Silva was left fuming with the referee and Anthony Martial as United were awarded a penalty when Idrissa Gana Gueye was adjudged to have brought down Martial in the box. It could have been worse as Gueye was on a booking at the time so at least he stayed on the pitch, but for United to be gifted such a cheap penalty was infuriating for The Toffees.
In the second half, Everton got a penalty of their own which Gylfi Sigurdsson converted to make it 2-1 and give his side a slim chance of grabbing a point after Martial had doubled his side’s lead earlier in the half. it was one of those games that Everton fans will say was against them from the off, and seeing as a win would have lifted the Goodison Park faithful four points clear of United, it feels like an opportunity missed.

Gana clearly stops the ball and then Martial throws himself in the air like an Olympic diver. Disgrace

Gueye played the ball. Wrong decision.

The Toffees are fuming with the decision and could well have grabbed a memorable win if the referee hadn’t got the ball rolling for United.
