Everton fans on Twitter have been saying goodbye to a Goodison Park favourite

Everton fans in the Tavern have been feeling nostalgic remembering their former wing-wizard Steven Pienaar after he announced his retirement yesterday. The 35-year-old from Johannesburg, South Africa represented Everton between 2007 and 2016, barring one season at Spurs in 2011/12 season.

Steven Pienaar wowed the fans at Goodison Park time after time during his on and off time with the blue half of Merseyside. The winger scored 22 goals and registered 40 assists in his 204 Premier League appearances with Everton and was part of one of the stronger Everton sides of recent years that included Maroune Fellaini, Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha.

Despite failing to win any silverware during his time on Merseyside, Pienaar didn’t fail to win over the fans of the club he represented with most blue nosed Liverpudlians looking back fondly on their South African star. After leaving Everton in 2016, Pienaar joined his old manager, David Moyes, at Sunderland who were eventually relegated at the end of the 2016/17 season.

After leaving Sunderland, Pienaar joined South African side Bidvest Wits on a free transfer before announcing his retirement yesterday. Everton fans were keen to remember the days in which they had the 35-year-old rip-roaring down the left flank in a toffee’s shirt and showed their appreciation for Pienaar in response to an Everton club tweet.

Here’s what they said!
