Everton fans on Twitter react to club’s Baines penalty tweet

Last night saw Everton miss out on all three points when Gylfi Sigurdsson missed a penalty against Watford in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park last night. However, less than 12 hours after that dreaded miss, the Everton Official Twitter account tweeted Leighton Baines a happy birthday message and included a video containing over a dozen penalties that the 34-year-old has scored in his time.

Normally, no one would bat an eye at the video of Baines’ penalty collection, however the fact that it’s been tweeted just hours after Gylfi Sigurdsson failed to score one and cost his side a point, it’s led to plenty of supporters putting two and two together, with one fan asking if the tweet was a slight dig aimed in the direction of the club’s Icelandic midfielder. However, it’s likely just a poorly timed mistake.
The overriding response to the tweet was the volume of fans who logged onto Twitter to claim that Marco Silva should have brought on Baines to score the spot-kick, instead of leaving it to Sigurdsson who failed miserably from 12 yards. The failed attempt from the ex-Tottenham man yesterday was his 3rd penalty miss of the season and the Toffees will be hoping he’s relieved of the job for the rest of the season.

Bring him on to take penalties.

As if you’ve posted a video with loads of penalties after last night someone on the social media team is getting a lump of coal for Christmas

Should have brought him on for the penalty

Wee dig at Sig?

Seeing as Bainsey’s not getting game time and we’re crap at penalty taking, we should give him a role in coaching with penalty taking top priority.

Hope Gylfi sees this And steps aside from penalty duties.

The Bluenoses would be keen to see someone else take up the penalty taking duty, and will just hope their next one comes when Baines is on the pitch.
