Everton fans took to Twitter to call for Walcott sub yesterday

Theo Walcott is a very hit or miss player. The ex-Arsenal winger has pace to burn and more often than not he can find the net when given the opportunity. However, he’s come in for some stick from the Toffees for some forgettable performances, and yesterday at half-time in the Merseyside derby the fans were all calling for Ademola Lookman to replace him.

Walcott was one of a few players to miss a big chance against Liverpool in the first 45 minutes. Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Walcott all had golden opportunities to open the scoring but all three of them failed to find the net, and when the half-time whistle was blown the majority of Everton fans would have loved to have seen Marco Silva make his first change of the match and introduce Lookman for the misfiring Walcott.

In 16 games for the Toffees this season, Walcott has scored just three goals and assisted twice, a record that he’ll be keen to improve on should he continue to start in Silva’s system. However, if the Everton fans get their wish then it will be the younger, more electric Lookman who gets the nod for the next few games. The 21-year-old winger looks sharp whenever he comes off the bench and whilst he’s yet to score this season, the fans believe he has more to his game than the ageing Walcott.
