Everton: Gabriel Agbonlahor issues criticism of James Rodriguez - Everton

Pundit and former player Gabriel Agbonlahor has issued some criticism for the performances of Everton playmaker James Rodriguez.

Agbonlahor, who was speaking on talkSPORT, believes that the Colombian has been found out by players in the Premier League and he isn’t performing at the level that he should be for Carlo Ancelotti’s men this season. Rodriguez is currently valued at £31.50m.

Rodriguez had joined Everton from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Since joining, the he has contributed to six goals in the Premier League. He also has one assist in the League Cup for the Toffees (as per Transfermarkt).

As per Whoscored, the 29-year-old has picked up decent ratings in the last three Premier League games for Everton but Agbonlahor believes that he’s not getting enough time on the ball and rather bizarrely claimed the playmaker hadn’t previously realised how cold it can be in England.

He said: “I feel with James, it’s got cold hasn’t it. He’s got cold and he’s probably thinking, ‘I didn’t realise it was this cold in England’.

Is Agbonlahor's criticism for Rodriguez unjustified?

No

“He’s not getting his time on the ball he was getting in the first few games. I think he’s been getting a bit found out, to be honest.

“He’s not really offering the team as much as he should be, and if Everton had a few more quality players on the bench I’m sure James wouldn’t be starting as he hasn’t really done much in the last three or four games.”

Transfer Tavern Take

In the Premier League this season, Rodriguez has come up with 1.07 goal creation actions per 90 minutes this season. He is only behind Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane, Hakim Ziyech and Kevin de Bruyne (as per FBRef).

He has come up with the highest number of goal creation actions from dead ball situations per 90 minutes – four. This clearly shows that Rodriguez has been a very effective player for the Toffees this season and Agbonlahor’s criticism isn’t justified. To act is if it’s never been cold in Madrid or Munich too is truly bizarre.
