Everton boss David Moyes is eyeing a loan deal for Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt as he desperately attempts to add numbers to his thin squad. Everton are one of a number of English sides considering the 20-year-old Dutchman.
Van Aanholt is unlikely to see any significant first-team action this year at Stamford Bridge, being well down the pecking order as he is. It is much more likely the former PSV man will be loaned out.
Moyes is interested in Van Aanholt because the defender will add depth to Everton’s left-side. Van Aanholt will provide cover for Leighton Baines whilst also being able to play ahead of the England left-back in midfield. It is also possible that Moyes will deploy Van Aanholt at left-back and allow Baines to push forward, which will allow his attacking inclinations to flourish.
Moyes’ transfer plans now rest on loan deals, but if the Blues boss can push through Joseph Yobo’s £3m transfer to Fenerbahce (however problematic that might be!) he should be able to significantly boost his squad in the coming days. One of these loan dealings may yet prove to be another Chelsea youngster, Daniel Sturridge.
