Apparently Everton are ‘very interested’ in Marseille winger/forward Hatem Ben Arfa (its not that I don’t know which, but he began as a forward before switching to a wider role to facilitate formation changes, so just you get off my back, yeah!?). David Moyes is known to have been keen is the past, with reports suggesting a potential loan deal last January, and it now seems he could renew that interest.
Ben Arfa is clearly a gifted player, with considerable potential. Currently on the fringes of the national side, the former Lyon starlet aided Marseille to the league title this year, capping an impressive second half to the season. At only 23, he is valued at a hefty £10 million; hence leaving Moyes with little, if any, left to spend. Nevertheless, with constant speculation regarding Steven Pienaar’s future, and the sturdy, stocky, stout Yakubu linked with a move to West Ham, Ben Arfa may be a viable option.
He can, however, be a moody little madam – involved in training ground bust-ups, disputes with managers and missing training – so whether he would fit the prototypical Moyesian mould of player (yeah, that’s right, ‘Moyesian’, I’m going there) is questionable.
The latest batch of rumours comes courtesy of Arfa’s agent, Frederic Guerra – stating ‘Everton have been very interested for a while now and it’s a possibility’ – and so he could well just be itching for a move and artificially igniting interest.
