Marcel Brands can be an extremely powerful weapon for Everton to use in the transfer market and after having been at the club for almost a year, he will be in a much better position to assess where the club needs to strengthen in the summer.
Added with the fact that the director of football has an expert knowledge of Dutch football following his time with PSV Eindhoven, he can help propel the Toffees into a commanding position when it comes down to looking for some of the talent to emerge from the country, with many players starting to make names for themselves.
And, it appears he could be keeping tabs on one of Holland’s next greatest prospects and look to bring him to Goodison Park in the summer.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Bleacher Report, Ajax’s Donny van de Beek has caught the eye of Everton with his performances this season, including a stellar showing against Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier in the week.
The 21-year-old has an enormous amount of potential and has already shown the quality he has to offer with his displays for the Dutch outfit, having hit 11 goals and providing nine assists in his 33 appearances across all competitions (WhoScored?).
However, those performances have also allegedly caught the attention of Italian clubs as well, with AC Milan believed to be showing the most interest.
Everton are crying out for a player who can create and score goals on a consistent basis and Van de Beek could be the ideal addition for the Goodison Park outfit to make as he would be able to offer that for a number of years as he is still young.
Van de Beek could potentially become their next Gylfi Sigurdsson in the future in terms of the type of player he may turn into and what he would be able to bring to the side in terms of attacking threat, although he can also sit in the middle of the midfield as well.
However, fans will remember that the club did have an exciting Dutch prospect on their books not too long ago in a transfer that turned out to be rather miserable. Davy Klaassen joined from Ajax but never made the grade at Goodison Park.
The club could face a real battle to land the 21-year-old, however, with Brands involved, it could work to their advantage.
With Brands’ knowledge of the Eredivisie, it is not surprising to see the youngster as a potential target of his as the director of football has a knack of unearthing some quality players and getting the very best out of them during his time at PSV, with the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Kevin Strootman, Dries Mertens and Davy Propper all benefiting from his development and helping to bring Memphis Depay through the academy ranks, per Liverpool Echo.
Everton fans, do you think Van de Beek would be an excellent addition for the club to make and would fair better than Klaassen at Goodison Park? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
