Everton join Chelsea in battle for much-fancied 23-year-old

According to The Mirror, Everton have become the latest side to have an interest in Burnley’s promising centre back Michael Keane.

The news has been welcomed by our Toffees fans here in the Transfer Tavern who are hoping that, with Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams nearer the end of their careers, Keane can be their next top defender for the foreseeable future.

It looks as though, however, they won’t get a free run at signing the player if they do go for him with Premier League leaders Chelsea also linked with an interest in securing his signature.

Keane has enjoyed a serious increase in his reputation this season with his performances for the Clarets and has also been called up to the England national team by Gareth Southgate during this campaign.

Burnley are looking to stay in the top flight this season after winning promotion last year and our local supporters of the men from Turf Moor think that’ll be seriously hindered if they let the young centre half leave in January.

Nevertheless, Everton certainly have the financial power to be able to tempt them and our landlord thinks the move would be perfect for both the player and Ronald Koeman.
