Celtic supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see their club keep a hold of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk this summer, but the Mirror are reporting that now two Premier League clubs have registered an interest.
Southampton are understood to have launched an £8 million bid for the Dutch defender, and now it appears Everton have identified him as a replacement should John Stones complete a move to Chelsea before the close of the transfer window.
Hoops boss Ronny Deila continues to insist his 24-year-old defender is not for sale, but both Southampton and Everton remain confident of convincing the Dutchman his future lies in the Premier League.
For Everton it all depends on whether they can keep hold of Stones. The Toffees have already rejected two bids from Chelsea this summer, one of which was as high as £26million.
The Champions are expected to return with an improved offer for Stones however, and should the highly-rated youngster decide he wants a move to Stamford Bridge, Roberto Martinez is ready to push Southampton all the way for Van Dijk.
A host of Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern admit they would love to sign Van Dijk this summer, but are skeptical as to whether the Scottish champions will be willing to let one of their most coveted stars leave the club.
