Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we love to witness the rise of a top quality youngster from the Championship going on to perform at the highest level in England.
With tavern favourite Wilfried Zaha ready to star for Manchester United next season, we eagerly await to see who will emerge next. One player with a promising future is Leeds United right back Sam Byram and it has long been thought that his next destination was set to be Manchester City with Roberto Mancini known to be a keen admirer.
However today The Sun reports that Everton boss David Moyes is preparing to rival City in the chase for the highly rated 19-year-old.
The paper suggests that Moyes is seeking a replacement for the soon-to-depart Phil Neville, 36, and he has outlined the Essex-born teenager as the perfect choice.
The Elland Road outfit are understandably desperate to keep Byram and new manager Brian McDermott said: “Sam leaving is not something that has crossed my agenda. People can talk — for me the best place for Sam is Leeds — playing and doing well.”
However the club’s owners GFH Capital are likely to cash in on the in-demand defender should an offer of around £10 million arrive.
Will Everton beat City to the signature of Sam Byram? Rate this rumour below.
