Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting their side to strengthen in the summer and will be excited by the reports that are coming out.
Portuguese media outlet A Bola are claiming the Toffees have joined the race to sign Porto defender Ricardo Pereira. The versatile defender, who is able to play on either the right or left, has been an important member of the side that is chasing that their first league title since 2013.
The 24-year-old has made 23 Primeira Liga starts this season, scoring twice and setting up a further three as they sit one point behind reigning champions Benfica with a game in hand.
Sam Allardyce is chasing someone to add some depth to his side, with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman the main full-backs, while Jonjoe Kenny has received mixed reviews for his performances within the first-team.
Everton will have some competition for the player, who is thought to have a 20million euro release clause, with the likes of Juventus, Valencia and Arsenal all monitoring his situation.
The Everton fans in the Tavern will be excited by the prospect of bringing Pereira to Goodison Park and know the roughly £18m fee would not put off the club from making an offer. The locals will be keen that the Toffees add defensive depth to their side, which has been a problem for them in the past couple of seasons due to injuries and suspensions.
